ABOUT \\ THE FANLISTING
An anime fanlisting aims to gather as many fans of a particular anime and/or manga subject from all over the world in just one list. The network's website is currently located at http://www.animefanlistings.org.
Heartbeat is the fanlisting for the manga series Nervous Venus. It is named after the ultimate physical manifestation of human emotion and life, which is one's heartbeat. This is such because I strongly believe that Nervous Venus is all about friendship, living and, ultimately, love. Heartbeat has been online since 19 May 2010.
NERVOUS VENUS \\ THE SERIES
Nervous Venus was created by mangaka Chie Waseda. She specializes in short stories, with works such as Megami (Goddess), Saigo no Rakuen, Summer Blue and Virgin Shock to her credit.
The series has two central characters: Haru Sekiya and Youji Seki. The story is all about denying love from entering one's heart. Nervous Venus begins with Haru in her final year of junior high school. Her best friend, Akira (nicknamed "Aki") Minato, is one of the best swimmers in the school and, secretly, her first love. On the day before Haru's birthday, Aki drags her to a secluded place and teaches her to smoke a cigarette, then proceeds to tell her about something rather important. Haru interrupts him, reminding Aki about her forthcoming birthday. He then remembers his plans to go on a ride with a friend who had just gotten a driver's license. Aki leaves Haru with his own secret untold.
Later, Haru receives a phone call that Aki died in a car accident with four other boys; this happened during their afternoon ride. Takatsuka, Aki's closest male friend, proceeds to tell Haru that Aki was supposed to confess his love on her birthday. Thus, both were separated without having ever admitted their love for each other. Life, however, goes on for Haru. She enters Kitakou High School where she meets notorious resident bad boy Youji Seki, who would stop at nothing to conquer her heart!
Nervous Venus was initially serialized starting February 1997 in the shoujo (girl-oriented) manga magazine Amie, along with other titles such as Clover, Juline and Rain Kiss, among others. Amie ended its run in July 1998. Nervous Venus was later released in manga compilations, with the following ISBN numbers:

VERSION 1.0 \\ Indestructible
The first version of Heartbeat features main Nervous Venus characters Youji Seki and Haru Sekiya against tones of orange, peach and tangerine. It is a heavily edited scan of a colored image from Nervous Venus Volume 1.
This layout is named Indestructible from a song of the girl duo Alisha's Attic. Lyrics appearing on the layout behind Seki and Haru consist of a stanza from the song as well as part of its memorable and upbeat chorus. The varying emotions embodied by Indestructible very much capture the youthful yet deep essence of Nervous Venus.
The layout was uploaded on 19 May 2010. It was created using Adobe Photoshop 7.0, with a good number of layers and filters, and spliced with Image Ready. Image credited to Nervous Venus Gallery. HTML coded with Notepad.
